A sort of “anarchist utopianism,” as one inspired in the Middle Ages by Joachim of Fiore, crept into Vatican II, but “the wise helmsman of the ship of Christ defended, on the one hand the novelty of the Church and, at the same time, the uniqueness and continuity of the Church, which is always a Church of sinners, and always a place of grace”.”Benedict XVI stated this today, at the general audience…

The priestly vocation is a very precious gift from God, especially a world that tends to exclude Him. This is what Benedict XVI recalled in his speech to the 500 participants in a recent congress promoted by the Congregation for the Clergy. There is great need for priests who speak of God to the world and who present the world to God; the Pope said, men not subject to ephemeral cultural fashions, b…

It is necessary to return to the confessional, noted Benedict XVI, speaking to the participants in the Apostolic Penitentiary’s course of formation. The hedonistic and materialistic cultural context is causing a loss of the sense of sin and of the sense of good and evil. Priests, with the example of the holy Cure d’Ars, must guide the faithful courageously, be dedicated to hearing confessions, and…

while the ambulance was rushing him to the hospital, the Pope was not praying to God or calling on the name of Jesus. He kept saying, over and over, “Mary, my mother!” Polish pilgrims placed a picture of Our Lady of Czestochowa on the throne where the Pope normally sat. People gathered around the picture. Vatican loudspeakers broadcasted the prayers of the rosary. When the Pope recovered, he gave Mary all the glory for saving his life, and he made a pilgrimage to Fatima to publicly thank her.

Pope John Paul II said hell is not about eternal torture in a fiery lake with gnashing of teeth and demons torming us day and night. Crazy right? He “rejected the reality of a physical, literal hell as a place of eternal fire and torment… Damnation consists precisely in definitive separation from God, freely chosen by the human person, and confirmed with death that seals his choice for ever.” He even said “The thought of hell and even less the improper use of biblical images must not create anxiety or despair”, so it’s not something to lose sleep over.
